Khilafat Movement

The hostile behavior of Britain and its allies towards the Ottoman or Turkish empires infuriated the politically conscious Indian Muslim society.
The Sultan of Turkey was regarded as the Caliph of the Muslim world.
A Khilafat Committee was formed under the leadership of the Ali brothers (Saukat and Mohammad Ali), Maulana Azad, Hakim Ajmal Khan, Hazrat Mohani, etc.
The All India Khilafat Conference was held in Delhi in November 1919.
In Gandhiji’s view, the Khilafat movement was seen as a golden opportunity to establish Hindu-Muslim unity. He said that such an opportunity would not come again in the next hundred years.
